Last Day of Summer Hike ~ Barrier Lake Loop ~

COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS: Participation in this event is conditional upon attendee compliance with government restrictions currently in place. If you have COVID-19, or may have COVID-19 due to a recent exposure, you are expected to withdraw from this event and stay home. We will be more than happy to see you at another event once it is considered safe for you to do so! Failure to comply with these protocols may result in removal from this event and/or future events.

Distance: 15km Loop (+1.4km option to lookout)
Elevation Gain: 500m (+125m option to lookout)
Pace: Relaxed yet steady

No dogs please

NOTE: As per current COC covid policy there is no official carpool for this event HOWEVER I do have limited seating available for anyone in need who can be at the Westbrook LRT Station by 9:45am. You must contact me in advance to secure a seat and regular carpool rates apply. (I will NOT be stopping there unless I have agreed to pick you up.) Alternatively attendees may wish to arrange ride sharing amongst themselves.

We will hike from the parking lot via Prairie View Trail to McConnell Ridge. From there, those who wish to continue on to the Lookout may do so while the rest of us relax, eat lunch and enjoy the view from the ridge. We will regroup approximately 1 hour later to begin our decent via Jewel Pass.

The stated hiking time is an estimate only, we are out to enjoy the day and will definitely not be in a rush. If you have concerns about being back in the city by a certain time please refrain from registering. When in doubt, don't come out!

PASS REQUIRED: All vehicles stopping in Kananaskis require an annual or day pass. If the licence plate of the vehicle you will be travelling in is not currently registered, you can Click here to purchase your Kananaskis Conservation Pass online prior to departure.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Take Hwy 1 west to Kananaskis Trail (Highway 40). Head south on Hwy 40 just past the Barrier Lake Vistor Centre and watch for the Barrier Dam Day Use area. We will meet at the far end of the lot (where the trail begins).
