If you plan to backpack this summer, it's time to take your backpack for a walk! This trip is also perfect for newer or becoming-more-fit hikers who are looking to build mileage at a slower pace with manageable hills.

Backpackers in-training are welcome to bring their full / partially full overnight packs and not worry about holding up the group. Those going light should plan for a slightly slower pace but without a lot of standing stops. Lunch will be on the trail at the 1/2 way (2 hr) point before the trail loops back to the picnic area.

"This easy loop winding through meadow and forest is a popular choice for early spring and late fall. It has two distinct sections: the undulating high line north of the highway which offers views of Moose Mountain and the 2005 pipeline right-of-way, and the riverbank route south of the highway." (kananaskistrails.com)

We will start with the highline to get most of the ups and downs done first and enjoy the views of the front range mountains. Our pace will be slower-moderate but steady (about 3 - 3.5 km/hr) with brief stops for water, quick photos and layer adjustments along the way.

This will not be suitable for very slow pokes or those wishing to stop and do a lot of photography. Fast hikers are welcome but should come prepared to stay with the group... consider carrying some extra weight if you are really speedy! :)
