Let's get out and continue to enjoy the beautiful fall we've been having with a hot 'picnic' lunch at Lillian Lake. If you have never backcountry camp, this will also give you a look at one of our more 'glampy' backcountry sites.:)

We'll start at the Galatea Day Use area and hike up to the Lillian Lake backcountry campground so we can make use of the cooking area tables to boil water for hot drinks and lunches (if you wish).

The trail alternates between gradual and steep inclines, following the creek up to the lake. Trail shoes or light hiking boots are both good for this one, as it's very well worn. We'll aim for a steady pace to keep people warm, but quick photo stops are welcome. If you are a fast hiker that prefers to hike well ahead of the group, this is not a good fit. The group will be staying together at the coordinators pace for this one. Note that most of the hiking will be in the shade, as we are in the tree line the whole time, but there are lovely views of Galatea Creek along the way.

For lunch, we'll set up two backcountry stoves to boil water for hot drinks and / or lunches by the lake. Those who are interested can bring powder and a mug for a hot drink and/or a dehydrated (just add water) backcountry camping meal (my plan). If you are new to those, I can recommend some excellent ones! Cold lunches and thermos lunches are welcome as well - the choice is yours!

After lunch, we'll head back down to the cars for a late afternoon return to the carpool. Note that because of the time needed for lunch, we will not be doing a side trip to Galatea Lakes on this outing - we're keeping it short.
