The hike begins on the usually very busy and steep (but short! only 1.3 km) old road trail through forest to beautiful Elbow Lake. We'll take a brief pause here, then leave the crowd behind as we continue through the Elbow Valley where we will cross rolling, sparsely-treed meadows. At approx the 5km mark, we'll take a short detour down to Edworthy Falls for another small break, then head back up and continue on to our destination of Rae Lake.

The trail itself will begin along a road-trail through some meadows. After passing Elbow Lake, we will get some views of Piper Creek canyon and occasionally get a glimpse of the Elbow River. The trail will branch off and eventually end up following a cairned path to Rae Lake, at the foot of Mt. Rae. We will stop at the lake for a leisurely lunch break. The trip promises many views of the neighbouring peaks, passage by a couple of lakes, and exploration into one of the less commonly explored parts of the area.
