Itinerary:

From Calgary's Best Hikes and Walks:
Categories: Neighbourhood
Approximate Distance: 7 km
Degree of Difficulty: Easy and mostly flat; one long hill is good for trail-training.

"In December, thousands of Christmas lights decorate the homes in these neighbourhoods. If urban hikers "bag communities" like mountain hikers "bag peaks", then this is an outing worth bragging about. Travel through five neighbourhoods on this down-to-earth, pleasant stroll. Begin with paved paths along the Bow River, which are followed by a long, gradual climb to the neighbourhood of Sunalta. The remainder of the trek follows sidewalks through quiet and not-so-quiet neighbourhoods. A large sandstone school marks the hidden path that short-cuts back to Sunalta."

Anyone who would like to go for warm drinks after, please let me know and recommendations would be appreciated as I'm not familiar with this area.

Note your coordinator has not done this hike before and wants to check it out. Please be patient with me as I try to figure out the route by following the map, and allow extra time for unforseen circumstances. Also note that this is not a speed and cardio hike - - - we will be dawdling :)

Required Items to Bring:
- Footwear & layered clothing appropriate to the weather.
- Note that we highly recommend ice cleats or other traction devices for winter hiking. Trails can get treacherously icy! Good ice cleats (Icers) can be purchased from Lee Valley Tools.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Take 6th Ave/Bow Trail west out of city center. Opposite the Greyhound Station, turn right onto Pumphouse Rd. Follow Pumphouse Rd to Pumphouse Theatre. Park on the road or in the parking lot near the theatre. I'll have a headlamp on and will be holding a pink folder.
Transit Routes #18 and #112 stop nearby.
