Please do NOT register for this hike unless you are prepared & equipped to hike in the snow! Because of the anticipated trail conditions, we will hike at a slow to moderate, steady pace. Ice cleats or icers from Lee Valley are almost a requirement as the snow and ice can be very slippery at this time of year.

It's wilderness with the edges sanded off, and a couple coats of varnish slapped on, but go anyway. The raw, ancient beauty overpowers man's pestiferous presence and clumsy attempts at embellishment. The trip begins at powder-blue Lake Louise, an unforgettable sight that for many is the Canadian Rockies. From there, you'll climb steadily until you're boxed in by cliffs. You'll see two obvious tongues of the lower Victoria and Lefreoy glaciers, as well as other glaciers clinging higher on the peaks. The lower glaciers are pockmarked with crevasses. On a sunny day, you can sit at trail's end and watch avalanches hurtle down from above. On Popes Peak, it appears as if a sculptor chiseled a series of monks. Look for them standing in a row, their hands clasped in supplication to the mountain gods. Unfotunately, the tea house in closed, but we will hopefully be able to sit in the glorious sunshine to enjoy our lunch. If you want a hot drink, you'll have to pack a thermos!
