Itinerary:
Distance: ~12KM return
Elevation: 417 M

At this time of year, there is snow at the top of Jumpingpound Ridge. Snow shoes may be needed - will confirm on Friday. On the lower levels, it is very icy so ice cleats are strongly recommended. It is 3.5 km to the summit, with a gain of 417 metres.

The beginning of the hike starts with a small creek crossing. We then follow switchbacks up through the forest. At the top you'll – hopefully - see beautiful views of several different mountain ranges and peaks - all glistening in the sunshine. We'll stop for lunch when we reach the summit of Jumpingpound Mountain. Following lunch, we will head west along the ridge and then return the same way.

NOTE: ALTHOUGH THE COORDINATOR HAS DONE THIS HIKE BEFORE, SHE HAS NEVER TRIED DOING IT LATE IN THE YEAR - SO SHE IS NOT SURE IF THE TRAIL WILL BE EASY TO FIND.

The pace for the hike / snow shoe is slow to moderate.

Event Directions:From Brentwood LRT, travel along the Trans Canada (16th Ave) to Highway 22, south. Take the exit to Bragg Creek. When you reach Bragg Creek, turn left onto Highway 22 going east. When you reach the junction with Highway 66, turn right and travel south. From Bragg Creek to the Powderface Trail road is approximately 32 km. Powderface Trail is a gravel road, and we need to go 18 kms on this gravel road to the parking lot and trail head for Jumpingpound Summit. There is no signage, so watch the kms once you start on Powderface Trail.

POWDERFACE TRAIL ROAD IS ICY AND SNOW COVERED IN SPOTS; ANYONE WILLING TO DRIVE MUST BE PREPARED TO DRIVE WITH EXTREME CAUTION. ROAD CONDITIONS WILL BE UPDATED FRIDAY. If the road is not passable, we will do an alternate hike along Highway 66.
