Itinerary:

A full day of combo activities at Chateau Lake Louise. Please plan to arrive about 15min prior to carpool departure so we can get organized and leave right at 8:30! Upon arrival at Lake Louise, regroup near the heated washroom building in parking lot.
- Until about 12:30 we will snowshoe or hike (depending upon snow depth) up the Fairview Lookout Trail: 2.3km return and 140m elevation gain. The trail is well used so snowshoes are probably not mandatory unless you want to play in the abundant deep snow in the trees just off the packed hiking trail. If you choose to hike, some form of good ice traction may be required.
After a quick trip back to the vehicles to drop snowshoes and pick up skates & lunch, we can eat by the lakeside fire pits, or inside for those who prefer. (I'll probably just stay outside unless the weather is miserable)
- The rest of the time is yours to spend wandering around the ice sculptures, skating around the ice palace on Lake Louise, hiking on nearby paths, indoor exploring and shopping, or whatever else you prefer. Please be back to the ice palace by 3:15 to regroup and prepare for the trek back home.
- Come on out and enjoy the day: 15th Annual Ice Magic Festival
- NATIONAL PARK PASS : The COC encourages all members to purchase a National Park Pass. Please let me know if you have a park pass in the "notes" section when you sign up.
- WAIVERS: If you have not already signed a waiver for 2009, please print one off and bring it with you. If you don't have a witness, I can witness it for you. Please sign it in front of me otherwise you will have to sign it again :)

Required Items to Bring:
- The COC encourages all members to purchase a National Park Pass. If you do not have a park pass, please be prepared to chip in a few dollars to the person whose pass you are using for the day.
- Remember to dress in warm layers!

- Ice skates. Rentals are available at Sports Rent, or UofC Outdoor Centre. Some rentals MAY be available at Monad's Sports in The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.
- Hiking boots, ice cleats

Take the Trans Canada Highway west from Calgary, past Banff. Take the Lake Louise turn-off and head in. Past the lights, you'll see a strip mall on the right. Continue past the mall and up to the Chateau Lake Louise. Park in the lot there. There are warm bathrooms at the west end of the parking lot - wait for the group there.

Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $132.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.33, effective Monday, October 5, 2026). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
