Celebrate Canada Day at the top of Jumpingpound Summit.

The beginning of the hike starts with a small creek crossing. We then follow switchbacks up through the forest. At the top you'll hopefully - see beautiful views of several different mountain ranges and peaks - all glistening in the sunshine. We'll stop for lunch when we reach the summit of Jumpingpound Mountain, where we will celebrate our majestic country (singing of national anthem is optional, but encouraged). Following lunch, we will head west along the ridge and then return the same way.

As the coordinator will have just spent the weekend in Waterton, the pace for the hike will be slow to moderate. After the hike, we will stop in Bragg Creek for ice cream / beer / coffee /snacks.

To access the trail, we must drive down Powderface Trail, which is a gravel road, only recently re-opened after having been washed out. This is one of the worst roads in Kananaskis, so those who are willing to drive must be prepared for 18 kms on this road.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:From Brentwood LRT, travel along the Trans Canada (16th Ave) to Highway 22, south. Take the exit to Bragg Creek. When you reach Bragg Creek, turn left onto Highway 22 going east. When you reach the junction with Highway 66, turn right and travel south. From Bragg Creek to the Powderface Trail road is approximately 32 km. Powderface Trail is a gravel road, and we need to go 18 kms on this gravel road to the parking lot and trail head for Jumpingpound Summit. There is no signage, so watch the kms once you start on Powderface Trail.

POWDERFACE TRAIL ROAD IS A NARROW, WINDY, GRAVEL ROAD. IF THE WEATHER IS POOR, AND THE ROAD CONDITIONS DETERIORATE, THE HIKE MAY BE CANCELLED.
