Prior to signing up, please read all the event details carefully and familiarize yourself with the club's difficulty ratings and safety policy. Yamnuska is a very popular peak and can be a good introduction to scrambling (provided that you are already a strong hiker). If you have climbed Heart Mountain or done other easy scrambles in a comfortable manner then Yamnuska would be the next step up. We will follow a switchback trail to gain the east ridge. A notch will allow us to continue along the back side of the mountain. Before reaching the summit we'll encounter the often talked about cable section. Holding onto the cable and using good footholds we'll circle around an otherwise difficult step and regain the trail to the summit. From the summit we'll continue west, descending the opposite ridge. We'll circle around to the front of the mountain and take a steep scree run back to the trail. This can be so much fun! Note that we will go at a slow to moderate pace to enjoy the views. If you are looking for a fast pace, please sign up for another event. Please contact the co-ordinator if you are unsure about your level of fitness for this event. | |||||||
