Starting out at the Moose Meadows parking lot, we will wind our way up through the forest to the Ink Pots. The Ink Pots are the outlets of seven cold mineral springs, fed by rainwater and snowmelt that has percolated into the surrounding bedrock. Two of the springs run murky due to the sediments disturbed by the rising water - hence the name Ink Pots. It is extremely important that we stick to the trail here, as the natural vegetation is fragile and cannot withstand constant trampling.

We may return via Johnston Canyon (which will add another 3 km and require not only icers, but also a 1.4km walk along the road. Or we may just return the same way we came and drive to the canyon for a short walk up to the lower falls.

Altho this is a slowpoke/dawdler event, this is not a beginner event, participants should have snowshoed previously.

IMPORTANT - Read: - Print off and bring your 2009 COC waiver. Read it, sign the last page, fill in your COC username on the last page, and initial the first two pages. Then you're good to go for the rest of 2009!

Required Items to Bring:
- snowshoes - Rentals are available, if required, at Mountain Equipment Co-op and University of Calgary Outdoor Centre
- icers or other traction for your boots if we decide to come back through the canyon
- $ or park pass for entry into Banff National Park
- sturdy hiking shoes or boots

- warm clothing/layers
